Jim McMurry

James McMurry is the Founder and CEO of Milton Security, a leading information security firm. McMurry has a diverse background and experience in network and information security, having worked with a broad spectrum of companies ranging from startups to Fortune 1000. McMurry has a dual MSc/MBA from the University of Maryland.

He started his career at a young age building Compupro S-100 machines and running the Palo Alto R/CPM BBS system from his parents garage in Palo Alto.  He also proudly served as a member of the US Coast Guard, having a lifetime of adventures as a puddle-pirate on the seas, before meeting his wife, Gosia. Upon leaving the USCG, he occupied infosec roles for numerous startup firms in the Bay Area and all throughout Southern California, as well as Army projects like Land Warrior until starting his own firm, Milton Security.

James launched Milton Security in 2007 with the vision of bringing network security within reach for all businesses.  His guiding ethos for Milton has always been to bring in customers as part of the Milton Family.  Milton Security has continually adapted to the needs of the customer since the company was founded 11 years ago, offering Managed Detection and Response (MDR) services through Milton’s Security Operations Center.

James is a member of the IEEE, Board member of Hackers For Charity, Board Member for Buckles and Barrels for Bailey, Board Member for InfoWarCon and makes a concerted effort to help fellow Veterans through hiring, training and supporting them in becoming part of the network security family.

When he isn’t working, you can find James either attending Comic-Con, a Barrel race/Rodeo with his family, or sipping Bourbon from his large and ever expanding eclectic collection.
